Hypothetical Lake Replacement & Habitat Enhancement at Paul Lake (BHP Billiton, June 1996)
BHP Diamonds Inc. proposes a habitat replacement and enhancement plan for Paul Lake to compensate for fish habitat losses resulting from the NWT Diamonds Project mining operations, which will affect 12 lakes over a 25-year period. The plan includes constructing a weir to raise Paul Lake water levels by 3.4 metres in two stages, creating 2.9 million square metres of new habitat and replacing 50.1 million cubic metres of lost lake volume, with comprehensive environmental monitoring over 10 years.
