2008-2009 Fay Bay Monitoring Program, Ekati Diamond Mine (BHP Billiton, September 2010)
This 2008-2009 monitoring report documents the environmental response to and effects assessment of an unplanned release of approximately 4,465 m³ of processed kimberlite into Fay Bay from Cell B of the Long Lake Containment Facility in May 2008. The report presents results of land-based vegetation reclamation monitoring and comprehensive aquatic monitoring including water quality, sediment chemistry, benthic invertebrate and fish community assessments, concluding that effects were generally localized to Fay Bay with evidence of short-term impacts and successful cleanup of over 80% of the released material.
