Archaeological Investigations for BHP Diamonds Inc., Ekati Diamond Mine (Points West Heritage Consulting, May 2000)
This 1999 archaeological investigation report documents the discovery of 18 new archaeological sites and confirmation of 6 previously recorded sites within the BHP Diamonds claim block at Ekati Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories. The study, conducted by Points West Heritage Consulting Ltd. over six consecutive years under NWT Archaeologists permit 99-884, involved site tours with local Indigenous representatives, intensive inventory of areas near proposed Sable, Beartooth, and Pigeon pits, artifact collection, and testing at selected locations, resulting in a total of 150 recorded archaeological sites in the claim block.
