Histopathological, Endocrine & Immunological Assessment of Rainbow Trout Exposed to Kimberlite Ore Tailings (GLOBALTOX, July 1998)
This multi-part final report documents a dose-response study of rainbow trout exposed to kimberlite ore tailings at 50 and 500 mg/L concentrations over 15 and 30 days, assessing histopathological changes in gills, liver and kidney, serum hormone levels (cortisol, estradiol, testosterone), and immunological parameters including phagocytic function and lymphoproliferation. The studies collectively demonstrate that kimberlite exposure caused adverse effects at all tested concentrations, with LOEC/LOAEC estimated below 50 mg/L, and immunomodulatory effects dependent on dose and exposure duration.
