Kodiak Lake Sewage Effects Study Technical Report, Ekati Diamond Mine (BHP Billiton, January 2002)
This technical report presents results of the 2001 Kodiak Lake Sewage Effects Study, the second year of follow-up monitoring after a three-year specialized study (1997-1999) examining effects of treated sewage effluent discharge on the lake's aquatic ecosystem. The study found that Kodiak Lake has mostly recovered from eutrophication caused by past nutrient introduction, though current project activities (particularly the Panda Diversion Channel) continue to introduce elevated nitrate concentrations.
