Kodiak Lake Sewage Effects Study Technical Report, Ekati Diamond Mine (BHP Billiton, March 1999)
This technical report presents the 1998 Kodiak Lake Sewage Effects Study, the second year of a three-year monitoring program examining the effects of treated sewage effluent discharge on water quality, sediment quality, and aquatic life in Kodiak Lake and Kodiak-Little Stream. The study documents increased water residence time, elevated nutrient loading, enhanced lake productivity, and reduced winter dissolved oxygen levels, leading BHP to decide to redirect sewage discharge from Kodiak Lake to the Long Lake containment area.
