NWT Diamonds Project, Report of the Environmental Assessment Panel (Environmental Assessment Panel, June 1996)
This is the June 1996 Report of the Environmental Assessment Panel reviewing the NWT Diamonds Project (Ekati Diamond Mine) proposed by BHP Diamonds Inc. and the Blackwater Group. The Panel concludes that the Project's environmental effects are largely predictable and mitigable, and that it has potential to provide significant economic and social benefits to the North, subject to numerous conditions and recommendations regarding land claims, traditional knowledge integration, environmental management, socio-economic monitoring, and regulatory oversight.
