Panda Diversion Channel Monitoring Program, Draft, Ekati Diamond Mine (BHP Billiton, December 2003)
This report documents the sixth year (2003) of monitoring fish populations in the Panda Diversion Channel (PDC), a man-made compensatory stream constructed in 1998 at the Ekati Diamond Mine. The study measured the productivity of the PDC relative to two reference streams (Pigeon and Polar-Vulture) by monitoring Arctic grayling spawning success, fry emergence, growth rates, survival, and outmigration, revealing that while the PDC supports high spawner densities, fry survival and growth rates were lower than reference streams due to incomplete ecosystem seasoning and density-dependent effects.
