Panda Diversion Channel Monitoring Program Final Report, Ekati Diamond Mine (BHP Billiton, March 2012)
This is the final year (2011, 13th year) of monitoring the Panda Diversion Channel (PDC), a compensatory fish habitat constructed in 1997 to offset stream losses from Ekati Diamond Mine development. The report assesses the PDC's effectiveness through measurements of physical habitat (flow, temperature, water quality, culverts, enhancement structures), biological productivity (benthic invertebrates, vegetation, fish populations), and Arctic grayling use, concluding that the PDC has successfully matured and serves its purpose as defined in the 1996 Fish Habitat Compensation Agreement with Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
