Processed Kimberlite Deposition Investigation, Ekati Diamond Mine (EBA Engineering, May 2002)
EBA Engineering assessed the physical properties of processed kimberlite deposited in Cell B of the Long Lake Containment Facility at the Ekati Diamond Mine, conducting a field program in March 2001 that recovered samples and installed instrumentation to characterize three distinct zones of varying composition and consolidation state. The investigation found excess ice in the frozen middle layer (Zone B) resulting in higher void ratios than design assumptions, while unfrozen material below (Zone C) was consolidating as anticipated.
