Proposed Tailings Facility, Submission to the Water Technical Session, BHP Diamond Mine Environmental Assessment Panel (GNWT, February 1996)
The Government of Northwest Territories reviews the NWT Diamonds Project Environmental Impact Statement, concluding that frozen core dams are acceptable for the mine site if proper freeboard and construction controls are maintained, but expressing concern that the proposed large tailings facility in Long Lake presents unresolved challenges for long-term erosion control and recommends concentrating tailings in upper watershed areas instead.
