Risk Assessment of Fox Mine Water Discharge in the Long Lake Containment Facility, Ekati Diamond Mine (BHP Billiton, January 2004)
This risk assessment evaluates the relative risk to aquatic life downstream of the Long Lake Containment Facility (LLCF) from discharging Fox Pit mine water into either Cell C or Cell D over the operational life of the Ekati Diamond Mine through 2015. Using mass balance modelling and risk quotient analysis, the assessment concludes that discharge into either cell will result in compliance with water licence effluent requirements, with no significant differences in predicted water quality between the two scenarios.
