Wildlife Effects Monitoring Program, Ekati Diamond Mine (Dominion Diamond, April 2013)
This is the 2012 Wildlife Effects Monitoring Program annual report for the EKATI Diamond Mine, covering January 1 to December 31, 2012, documenting wildlife observations, habitat loss, wildlife incidents, and mitigation effectiveness across caribou, grizzly bears, wolves, wolverines, foxes, and breeding birds. The report shows 212.9 hectares of additional habitat disturbance, 14 vehicle-related animal mortalities (none of VEC species), four non-vehicle wildlife mortalities, and 15 wildlife incidents, while implementing regional collaborative monitoring programs including grizzly bear DNA studies and caribou behavioral surveys.
