Bear Tracks No. 5 Newsletter, Grizzly Bear Habitat Analysis and Movement Update (NWT Grizzly Bear Project, May 1998)
This newsletter documents the NWT Grizzly Bear Project's findings on habitat preferences and movement patterns of barren-ground grizzly bears in the central Arctic, based on satellite collar tracking and habitat analysis of the Lac de Gras region. Male bears show significantly larger annual ranges (6,685 km²) compared to females (2,074 km²) with distinct seasonal habitat preferences driven by food availability and denning behavior.
