Reclamation Research Program, 1999, Ekati Diamond Mine (ABR Inc., May 2000)
1 March 2000Report
This 1999 annual report documents BHP Diamonds' reclamation research program at the Ekati Diamond Mine, evaluating kimberlite and lake sediment as growth substrates for vegetation, assessing riparian and wetland vegetation establishment in the Panda Diversion Channel, and monitoring reclamation efforts at multiple mine disturbance sites. The research focused on developing techniques to support long-term plant establishment and ecosystem recovery in support of mine closure and reclamation objectives.

Interim Abandonment and Restoration Plan, Ekati Diamond Mine (BHP Billiton, February 2000)
1 February 2000Report
This interim abandonment and restoration plan describes BHP's strategy for reclaiming disturbed areas at the Ekati Diamond Mine following the mining of four kimberlite pipes (Panda, Koala, Fox, and Misery) over a projected 15-year operational period. The plan details reclamation approaches for open pits, underground facilities, tailings containment areas, waste rock storage, water management structures, quarries, roads, and other infrastructure, emphasizing stable landforms, water resource protection, and facilitation of natural recovery through progressive reclamation, revegetation research, and post-closure monitoring.

Pilot Revegetation Studies at the Fox Portal Site, NWT, Canada (BHP Billiton, 1997)
1 May 1997Report
This second annual report documents pilot revegetation studies at the Fox Portal site in the Northwest Territories, testing soil amendments (esker sand, lake sediment, organic soil) and plant materials (native grasses, forbs, shrub cuttings) to rehabilitate areas disturbed by diamond mining operations. Results after one growing season show that native-grass cultivars performed best with 4-8% plant cover, while soil microbiology and chemistry varied significantly among amendments, with organic soil showing the most favorable conditions for plant growth.
