Aquatic Effects Monitoring Program (AEMP) Guidelines Workshop, Summary Report (DIAND, February 2009)
2009Report
Final Aquatic Effects Monitoring Program (AEMP) Guidelines Workshop Summary Report — INAC Water Resources Division, October 21-22 2008 (final version February 25 2009). Same distribution as the Draft. Adds discussion of enforceability for human-health concerns, early-warning levels and adaptive management triggers, and the integration of Traditional Knowledge (TK) — emphasizing TK should be obtained at the pre-baseline stage rather than later, because AEMP is largely written as a western-science process. Elders and scientists should both be involved early.

Long Lake Containment Facility (LLCF) Seasonal Water Quality Investigation 2004 to 2005, Ekati Diamond Mine (BHP Billiton, July 2007)
1 July 2007Report
This report presents a comprehensive investigation of seasonal water quality changes in the Long Lake Containment Facility (LLCF) tailings facility at Ekati Diamond Mine during 2004-2005, examining unexpected increases in contaminant concentrations observed during winter 2003/04 through field sampling, historical data analysis, and water quality modelling. The study concludes that high winter concentrations result from natural processes including solute exclusion from ice formation, stratification in Cell D, and pumping operations that draw poorer-quality water from deeper layers.
