Burgundy Diamond Mines' Surveillance Network Program (SNP) monthly report for June 2023 under Water Licence W2020L2-0004, submitted to the Wek'èezhii Land and Water Board. The report documents water quality monitoring, flow measurements, discharge volumes, and analytical results from 22 samples collected at various monitoring stations around the Ekati Diamond Mine, including an incident of elevated turbidity in King Pond that resulted in temporary suspension of discharge to Cujo Lake.
The Wek'èezhìı Land and Water Board approved the 2022 AEMP Re-evaluation Report and AEMP Design Plan Version 8.0 with required revisions, and approved the Point Lake AEMP Design Plan Version 1.0 for integration into the site-wide plan. The Board rejected Arctic's recommendations to remove zinc from water and sediment quality monitoring, required expanded non-lethal Slimy Sculpin sampling, and directed clarifications on uranium benchmarks and Response Framework procedures.
This 2022 3-Year Waste Rock and Waste Rock Storage Area Seepage Survey Report documents environmental monitoring results from the Ekati Diamond Mine, analyzing seepage chemistry from multiple waste rock storage areas (Fox, Misery, Lynx, Panda, and Koala WRSAs) to assess water quality, metal/metalloid concentrations, and potential environmental concerns from 2002-2022.
Laboratory analytical results from Bureau Veritas for water samples collected from waste rock storage area seepage at Ekati Diamond Mine in June 2022, including chemical analyses, toxicology bioassays, and quality assurance documentation for three seepage monitoring stations.
Land Use Permit inspection report for the Ekati Diamond Mine Point Lake project conducted on March 13 and April 24, 2024, documenting compliance with permit conditions across road construction, waste rock storage, equipment management, and waste handling. The inspector found no concerns and all inspected operating conditions were rated acceptable.
GNWT-ECC conducted a Land Use Permit inspection of the Ekati Diamond Mine's Misery Camp on February 28 and March 14, 2023, under permit W2017D0004. The inspection identified two minor concerns: a frozen and plugged refueling station containment sump requiring thawing before freshet, and unlabelled hydrocarbon storage containers requiring inventory and labelling.
This 2022 3-Year Waste Rock and Waste Rock Storage Area Seepage Survey Report presents temporal trend graphs (1999–2022) for multiple chemical parameters measured in seepage from the Panda/Koala and SW waste rock storage areas at Ekati Diamond Mine, including total and dissolved concentrations of metals, nutrients, and suspended solids.
Arctic Canadian Diamond Company's May 2023 Surveillance Network Program monthly report for Water Licence W2020L2-0004, submitted to the Wek'èezhìi Land and Water Board, documenting water sampling results, flow measurements, containment facility volumes, minewater pumping quantities, and comprehensive analytical data for multiple monitoring stations across the Ekati Diamond Mine.
The 2022 Air Quality Monitoring Program (AQMP) report for the Ekati Diamond Mine presents meteorological and air quality monitoring data collected throughout 2022, including ambient particulate matter, gaseous contaminants, dustfall, and greenhouse gas emissions. Results show that annual average temperature was -8.9°C, precipitation was 170 mm (48% below the 1994-2022 average), and no exceedances of GNWT standards for total suspended particulate or PM2.5 were recorded, with total GHG emissions estimated at 164.9 ktCO2e.
Arctic Canadian Diamond Company's April 2023 monthly Surveillance Network Program report for Water Licence W2020L2-0004, submitted to the Wek'èezhìi Land and Water Board, documenting water volumes, lake elevations, minewater management, sewage treatment, ore and waste rock production, and detailed water quality analytical results from two sampling events.
Arctic Canadian Diamond Company submits the updated Wildlife Management and Monitoring Plan (WMMP) for the Ekati Diamond Mine to the Government of the Northwest Territories Environment and Natural Resources department. The WMMP replaces the 2017 Wildlife Effects Monitoring Plan and incorporates stakeholder feedback, traditional knowledge, and mitigation strategies for wildlife species including caribou, grizzly bears, wolves, wolverine, and raptors, with monitoring programs addressing habitat loss, waste management, wildlife incidents, and caribou road interactions.
The Independent Environmental Monitoring Agency submits detailed comments on Arctic Canadian Diamond Company's 2022 Aquatic Effects Monitoring Program Re-evaluation Report and Point Lake Development AEMP Design Plan for the Ekati mine, raising concerns about data analysis methodology, fish sampling protocols, benthic invertebrate classification, metal monitoring in food chains, and nutrient-phytoplankton relationships.
IEMA Board of Directors meeting held February 13-14, 2023 in Yellowknife covering agency business, officer appointments, financial reports, policy updates, and presentations from Tlicho Government on caribou monitoring and Arctic Canadian on Ekati mine operations. Directors reviewed ongoing monitoring plans, water licence renewal preparations, and communications initiatives.
