Sable Lake 1997 Fisheries Resource and Habitat Survey (BHP Billiton, April 1998)
This 1997 baseline fisheries survey of Sable Lake, a small oligotrophic tundra lake north of the Ekati Diamond Mine, documents fish community composition (110 lake trout and 2 slimy sculpin), habitat characteristics, and water quality conditions prior to potential future kimberlite mining. The isolated lake contains an estimated 99–189 lake trout susceptible to gill nets, with predominantly boulder substrate offering minimal spawning habitat and disconnected inflow/outflow streams.
